A. Name Protection


1).
What is Name Protection?
Name protection shall prevent unwanted registrar transfer, reseller transfer, DNS change and domain name deletion. This shall always ensure your domain name status will not be changed without prior getting your approval.

When do my domain names starting protected by this new service?
Name Protection works instantly and automatically upon every successful domain name registration and transfer, if Name Protection option is enable.
  • 14th April 2003: .com/.net/.cc
  • 29th September 2003: .org/.biz/.us/.cn

  • 3).
    How Name Protection works?
    If Name Protection option is enable, Name Protection works automatically upon successful registration or transfer in Quick Start, Partner Central or Private Label. The domain name will be protected automatically by system. However for domain name registration or transfer before date mentioned above, or Name Protection option is disable, partners need to login to Web Address Manager in Partner Central to protect those domain names manually.

    4).
    How about the names registered/transferred before date mentioned above?
    As the Name Protection service start on date mentioned above, therefore the domain name registered/transferred before the date will not be protected automatically. You may protect the name by using the function available in Web Address Manager, Partner Central.

    5).
    How to protect or activate my domain name status?
    As partner, you can perform Name Protection by login to Web Address Manager, Partner Central. Steps as follow:
  • Select the domain name
  • Select Name Protection feature
  • Select Protect/Active options. "Protect" enable the Name Protection and the domain name will not be able to change DNS, transfer and deletion. Meanwhile "Active" disable the Name Protection and domain name is active for DNS changes, deletion and transfer.

    If my domain name is protected, can I transfer my domain name?
    No, when a domain name is protected, you are unable to transfer your domain name to other registrar or within reseller. Please activate your domain name before transfer.

    7).
    If my domain name is protected, can I delete my domain name?
    No, when a domain name is protected, you are unable to delete your domain name. Please activate your domain name before deletion.

    8).
    If my domain name is protected, can I change my domain name DNS setting?
    No, you are unable to change the DNS setting when your domain name is protected. Please activate your domain name before deletion.

    9).
    If my domain name is protected, do I have to activate my domain name before renew?
    Not necessary. Name Protection will not affect renewal process. You may continue your renewal even though domain name is protected. However, it is advise that you should always activate your Name Protection to protect your name.

    10).
    Is domain name renewal will be protected automatically as well?
    Name Protection is not apply to renewal. You still able to renew the domain name even though the domain name is Protected status. It is advise after renewed your domain name, you can protect the domain name by login to the WAM in Partner Central. Domain name renewal will not be protected automatically after success renewed.

    11).
    Is the domain name contact information will not be able to change under Name Protection?
    Others than DNS change, other domain name contact information such as name, address, email address etc will still active for changes even though the name is protected.

    12).
    Are my customers able to protect or activate Name Protection service?
    No. WebNIC.cc does not provide the function to protect or activate the status of domain name to end customer. Therefore your customers are unable to perform protection or activate their domain name status. If your customers would like to protect or activate the domain name status, they need to contact you to do that.

    13).
    What are the domain names that can be protected by this new service?
    Except .info, domain names with extension .com/.net/.cc/.org/.biz/.us/.cn can be protected under this new service.

    14).
    How will the WHOIS information show?
    If your domain name is protected, you will find the WHOIS information shows status as below:
  • .com/.net/.cc: REGISTRAR-LOCK
  • .org/.biz/.us/.cn: UpdateProhibited, TransferPorhibited, DeleteProhibited

  • 15).
    Do you allow partners who opt out for Name Protection altogether?
    Yes. The Opt-out option for Name Protection is now available at Profile Management, Partner Central. Please do select your Name Protection option as active or inactive. If the option is active, all the registration and transferred domain name will be protected automatically, else Name Protection feature will be disable.

    B. Transfer Protected Function FAQ


    1).
    What is Transfer Protected?
    This is a feature to protect the domain name from unauthorized Registrar Transfer. Unlike Name Protection, Transfer Protected domain name still allow for DNS modification and deletion.

    2).
    Why my domain name is Transfer Protected after registered?
    By default, our system will protect all the names with Transfer Protected or Name Protection feature. The selection of feature is available in Profile Management of Partner Central, select System Customization to select your domain name for Transfer Protected or Name Protection feature.

    3).
    How to change the Transfer Protected status?
    To change the Transfer Protected or Name Protection from domain name, login to Web Address Manager of respective domain name. You may select to activate your domain name, or change of protection feature.
